When I was a little girl I can remember helping my mom layout quilts in the living room floor. I remember watching her cut the blocks one-by-one, choosing just the right colors and prints to compliment each other... and I remember taking the quilts to a lady named Pita to do the quilting. Since I was a little girl I have always enjoyed the art of quilting! I love material! I love to just look through material of all shapes and colors and image what it could become... My great grandma Nell was a great quilter- She amazed me with the fact that she could take rags and pieces of old clothing and turn them into something so beautiful. Now, my grandma Lois is making quilts too... and it brings back all the memories....... these memories got me thinking that eventually I will have nieces that will need me and help them make these memories... ( and possibility children- many many years from now... if ever?) I started looking into the idea of purchasing a quilting machine.... which is just a hope and dream to relive those memories that I have. Click Here to see my dream machine!

Sometimes I think we can never be thankful enough for the loving families we were blessed with... The picture below shows Troy, Jordan, Tyson, Me, Jon, Dad, and Ava on Father's Day 2008. I was blessed with a loving father that taught me respect and work ethic... two things that most children do not have or recognize in today's society. As a women, I am so thankful that my dad taught me the "manly" skills that he did. I am an independant person, and I appreciate the fact that I don't need to hire someone to mow the lawn, that I can raise a garden, and even kill a snake with a shot gun if I need to! I love my Daddy very much!!! Happy Father's Day Dad!!!

On Father's Day, Troy's dad and brother came out to visit. They actually helped us till our garden, which was a first for Trent... but I think he had fun! Pictured below= Trent, Bill, and Troy

SCHOOL OUT FOR THE SUMMER!

Almost... I finish up the first year of my Master's Degree this weekend.... I am teaching College for Kids this coming week, for the first time! I hope it is as much fun as I think it will be! I have a lot of resting/tanning planned this summer... and lots of weddings... everyone is getting married! Just feeling a touch of relief-
And, I just turned 24 years old! Wow, where did 21 go?

Troy and I went to Florida to visit my grandparents this past weekend- They just purchased my Great Grandma's old home near Brooksville, and we went down to help them fix up a few things. The weather was nice- about 80 degrees the first day and sunny- That evening we had some major thunderstorms, of which I am REALLY scared of... the wind was wild. But= We made it!

This is me and Troy in front of the house... I made the 7072 sign and that is Grandma Nellie's old mail box... I stuck some flowers in it!

This is Mamaw and Pap in front of the back door-
Almost all the really old photos of my family in Florida were
taken in this same spot... but I fixed the landscaping this time!

Troy & Pap fixed the leaky roof & Mamaw and I trimmed the bushes and worked on the landscaping.... All in all- We enjoyed spending time with them!

Jordan, as you all know... was such a sick kid not to long ago.

He has struggled with his health & has recently had some problems with the school.

His medicication has altered his personality so much that he is like a different person-

This has been really hard for Troy & I to deal with... Jordan was a big part of our lives before he got sick & now... he doesn't want anything to do with us?!?!

A few days ago, my parents made a great choice. They removed him from the class at school that was causing him mental stress & Jordan's Dr. has decided to take him off some of his medication..... Within a few days.... he has came back around. I can't imagine how difficult things have been for him. It has worried our whole family, but God has blessed us!

I ran across this picture of Jordan & Trent when they were little. They have always been best friends and worst enemies. They get on each others nerves, but they always want to be with each other... closer than brothers... and more than friends. When I saw this, It reminded me of the first time Trent saw Jordan in the hospital. He walked up to him and grabbed his hand and started whispering to him with tears falling from his eyes.... (makes me cry just thinking about it) Jordan wasn't able to respond to us at that point- it was a terrible feeling!

Those two little guys are so lucky to have each other! I love them both very very much! I am so proud of them!

Hard Workin'Man

I woke up one morning to this! Troy took out the whole kitchen wall!!!

This is what our house used to look like on the outside...

We have made lots of changes... This is Troy working on the siding... You can see the old siding at the top.

We know have the siding finished & we are working on the inside.

We put down new tile... and the bathroom is coming along quite well....

We are hoping to build on a garage with a large room above it in the spring....

I will post inside photos soon....

Today, in my first grade classroom, we were talking about traditions... what are they? why do we have them? and what do they mean?
most of the children caught on very quickly.... which led to the sharing of their own family's christmas traditions---
so funny-

"my family always listens to elvis music. i hate elvis music" - i bet her children listen to elvis music at christmas- what do you think?

"at my house, the night before christmas i get to sleep with my mom and dad- i am afraid my dad will shoot the reindeer and hang them on the wall" hahahaha

and then.... i thought i would crack up!

"mrs. pekkala, is wal-mart a worldly tradition?" - yes, she is gifted, no questions asked.... but this shocked me.

It has always been a dream of mine to visit NYC during the Christmas Celebration. I had the chance to go with a group from our school this year, but it fell in my final's week for my masters program.

The NYC Naked Cowboy, The Shows, The Shopping, The Beautiful Sights of the City... Someday, I want to stand in front of that tree and have my photo made with my husband!!!

Being Thankful Today....

Today, Thanksgiving 2007,
Today, Is my passed Great Grandma Nell's Birthday.
Today, When I woke... I thought many thought of her...
Today, I miss her more than ever before...

It is so strange to think that she has been gone for years now, & I still think of her... and miss her so often! While my grandma was living in the nursing home, I would visit her often. I remember the days I left there feeling so joyful and calm... because of the conversations we had together - And then there were days, that I would barely make it the car before tears would rush to my cheaks- I lived in granny's house while she was sick & took care of things. I always tried to do things like she did, except for cooking... because NO ONE... could ever measure up to her apple pies & home made pickles-

Troy and I were talking just the other day about how lucky we are to still have our grandparents! My Grandma Lois & Papaw Melby just live up the road from us & we hang out with them several times a week. Yeah, I know what you're thinking...."How much fun could it be to hang out with you grandparents?"-

Well, we have a BLAST. We play cards and watch Wheel of Fortune and Granny fixes us dinner (yum yum)... But most importantly, we are making memories that will be in our hearts forever. I know that God has blessed me with a beautiful, kind, loving family. And I am so thankful for to have had a chance to create wonderful memories to cherrish throughout my life!!!!

I married the love of my life this past summer... 07.07.07
It was the wedding I have dreamed about for years. Troy is the best thing that has ever happend to me! We are best friends, and I don't know what I would do without him!
We have been remodeling my Great Grandma Nell's old house, which I purchased a little over three years ago. It is a small house and it is old, but it is very special to me! How lucky could I possibly get... to get a husband (and father inlaw) that is willing to fix it up. We have put lots of blood, sweat, and tears into it, and I wish Grandma could give us her input (mostly his sweat and my tears) - She would be so happy. Except for the fact that Troy has torn out every closet in the place, and she LOVED closet space. When I moved in there was 5 closet in a two bedroom house... and they were all stuffed with things of great value to Granny.

OK, Here it is!!!! Hahahahahahahaha....... I wish!!!! I really will post a real one soon!

I cannot believe how fast this year has went...

I have been so swamped with getting married, taking photos, and starting my master's degree, that time has just flew by fast. I catch myself thinking, " I can't wait till Wednesday." And then, "Thank God it is Friday." And before I know it another week of our precious lives is in the past!

I wanted to share some Christmas card designs that I have been working on... Let me know what you think!

You Need to STOP and Just REMEMBER...

Remembering.... is so important.
I remember lots of things...
What do you remember...
I can remember sitting in the yard under a small maple tree, which is quite large now, just waiting for the school bus to come up the road. I was only a little girl & all my cousins were already in school. I hated sitting at home all day with no one to play with. I could here the bus coming from down the road... I would run to the end of the driveway and just wait for Tyler, my older cousin would rush off... we would eat dinner and spend the evenings together playing ball or working with his animals. Now... He has a beautiful wife and amazing baby boy- Baby Landon:

I remember Kindergarten Registration... My mom held my hand all the way into the building, even though I didn't want her to - Only now I can relate to why she wanted to hold my hand, and even why she held so tightly... What I didn't know is that when she led me into that building she was helping me begin the first day of my life at Jasper Elementary...

My Kindergarten teacher was perfect. She played games, she let us color, we danced, and even sang... I remember Curtis Delong trying to kiss me in her class.... IT WAS NOT MY FAULT-- but, Mrs. Salisbury took care of it for me. Curt stood on the wall, and I cried because he was in trouble?!?! At that time... I would have never understood how important that lady was in my life. To me, she was just my teacher... yeah, I liked her... but she was just my teacher. Now, 19 years later I work with her everyday. In the same building where I started my first day of school. The same school that in Mrs. Merideth's first grade classroom a snake was stuck inside the blinds and the janitor knocked it into a trash can while Mrs. Merideth hid in the corner. The same school that that I spent two high school summers cleaning, so I could waste the money on useless things of little or no value. That place is special to me. and Now... Mrs. Salisbury and her husband just adopted two beautiful children from Russia... They are perfect and I couldn't be happier for them all. Sophia and Sherman:

I can remember... the day my Mom and Dad sat Jon and I down on the big blue couch, made us turn off the TV... and told us that Jordan was going to be here soon.... We didn't understand. We didn't care. Honestly, we didn't even want another brother or sister. I can remember getting down beside my bed with Jon and we would pray totally opposite prayers- I would pray for a boy! And Jon wanted a girl! We just didn't want to share a room. I must have prayed harder... or maybe just louder because in July about 15 years ago we ended up with Jordan Evan Buckler... One of the best things that has ever happend in my life!!!! And Now...He is more than just a brother to me! He is my little brother, my almost son, and my friend. We are so much alike it is sometimes scary. I love to watch him play ball and run. He is a kid that gives 100% all the time! (He gets that from me & my Dad) He is a good kid & I am very proud of him! (ps. I love my other brother too... I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression!)
I can remember... going to church with my family as a small child. I can remember getting up in front with all the small children and singing songs about God's wonderous love. I remember watching my Mom and Dad sing in the choir together... I remember my Uncle Terry and Uncle Tim sing songs that made everyone in the church cry.... Then, I didn't really understand it... Now, I do! I just hope that I can use these memories to make a difference in someone elses life. Someone who has no one. Someone who has nothing... or even everything. Just Someone...

Oh Yeah... I hope you REMEMBER to set your clock back!

Today in class, I gave my kids a creative writing project. They are only in 1st grade & usually the quality of writing is just OK.
The assigment was: "Close your eyes, imagine you are a pumpkin in the middle of a very large pumpking field. Look at all the pumpkins around you. Are they big, small, happy, grouchy?" I then asked the students to open their eyes. I gave them a worksheet for them to start their writing. There was a picture at the top with two pumpkins- I asked the students to draw a face on both the pumpkins and then write a story about both of their lives in the pumpkin patch. Although I cannnot share the name of the student that wrote this... I feel it is a must to share their writing with you:

Pumpkin #1: ones a pona time there wose a pumkin hise momy died an he wose sad but his mother wodent talk to him from hevin he prade and said God wod you let her come bake.

Pumpkin #2: wons a pona time there wose a mean pumkim and he hatede peapol but he wose just rotten and he liked apples. apples maked him feal beter and he at one and he wose happy.

well!?!?- Where do you go from here? I wanted to cry while I read this, but laughed instead. A few seconds after I read it.... a students aide came in , which happend to be a substitute. I handed her the assignment and let her read it. I was cleaning up some paint material and when I turned back toward her she was in tears! .... Her mother had been diagonised with cancer a while ago and has been taking chemo for months now. She had a catscan today that came back CLEAR!!!! Just more proof that God is amazing... in this little pumpkin's life and in our lives!

well..... i look at eveyone else's blogs.... and decided- WHAT THE HECK--- i should have one too!

I have been REALLY busy lately with my master's degree work and photographs (http://www.jenniferbuckler.com/) It seems like naps are the GREATEST thing in the whole wide world.

A few weeks ago my little brother Jordan was in Children's Hospital with viral menigitis - he is doing much better now, but driving everyone crazy. He has good days... and bad days. Mostly bad headaches and trounble remembering things. I would like to thank everyone who prayed for our family during that time... it was a VERY scary time!

ok- that is the end of very 1st blog entry... YEAH!
